Let’s Start With Common Decency as We Move Forward

Common decency. Let’s start with that as we move forward. This morning I woke up with renewed hope in the decency of Americans. Now, going into the new year, our leaders have been given a new opportunity to make a positive difference in our country, and our world. Let’s not squander this opportunity. Let’s let our shared sense of decency lead us through the coming challenges.

Let’s ask ourselves:

Is it decent to allow government thugs to pepper spray, beat, shackle, kidnap and deport people to nations they’ve never stepped foot in? Is it decent to allow government thugs to kill people trying to protect those who are being beaten, pepper sprayed, and kidnapped?

Is it decent to allow billionaires to pay (on average) only 24% of their wealth in taxes, while the average person pays 30%? Is it decent to give subsidies to rich corporations while the cost of health care bankrupts more than 500,000 people every year?

Is it decent to threaten our allies with annexation?

Is it decent to support countries that invade other countries, and try to commit genocide against an entire ethno-national group?

Let’s strive to be decent to our planet and all those we share it with.
