my bullet points to prove

and the cats sit next to my chair
looking up at me with unblinking eyes
and I know what they are thinking:
“Feed me!”
For a moment they break
and chase each other –
scampering across the floor.
And then they are back in position,

even the cats are asleep
when I come downstairs
to see what I might reap
from the middle of the night

from star to star and coast to coast
extending beyond now and here
and beyond all fear

And now it’s O Brother, Where Art Thou? on Roku
one of my favorite movies and we’re just at the part
where the Soggy Bottom Boys are singing the blues
in the studio, singing with their hearts
and our cats are awake now and wanting to be fed
maybe I’ll feed them and then go back to bed
