Day 446

We’re 446 days in. I’m starting to feel a little detached –
like a spectator watching a farce unfold on a stage – a show –
as if this has nothing to do with me or my world.
And the tragicomedy unfolds in front of us now –
simultaneously pitiful and horrifying and maddening
and over-the-top wacky – Dr. Strangelove on ergo-
genic acids. The audience makes its predictions about
what will  happen next. What new woe will he sow?
Will he fire more people? Will he put himself above the law?
Will he start World War III? Will our debt continue to grow?
Will our environment go down the toilet? Will we lose
our social security? Will he twitter us some new foe?
“He certainly believes he has the power to do so.”
And the audience waits with ‘bated breath to see
what will happen next in our very own unreality expo.
A train wreck in slow motion. Slim Pickens riding
the bomb in Earth’s last rodeo.
Once we had the chance to save our planet.
But we let it go.

T’was the evening on Friday…

Here are some quick poetic doodles inspired by the latest machinations of the GOP –

T’was the evening on Friday when down Senate’s floor
writhed a greedy-pants tax bill to take from the poor
The middle-class were tucked all quiet in their berths
while the GOP sycophants transformed them to serfs.

On debt! On corporate tax cuts! On breaks for the rich!
Health care insurance just got thrown in the ditch.

During the night the middle-class
transformed into serfs in a fiefdom.
It was decreed by law passed
that we’re slaves ’til we die
while the richiest rich eat all of the ripe plums.

While the rich get their face lifts
and tummies tucked, too,
the poor work an extra shift,
for basic health care for Baby Sue .

“Privatization”

When you hear the word “privatize” what that means is that politicians want to give their corporate buddies permission to use your tax money for stock market speculation and for their own personal profit. We are the only industrialized nation that relies on for-profit health insurance. We have privatized, for-profit, prisons – which… just think about THAT for a minute. The Pres-Elect has chosen as his nominee for Health and Human Services a man who wants to privatize social security. And the Pres-elect wants a woman as Sec of Education who has never attended public school herself, whose children never attended public school, who’s never been a teacher or principal, and whose main goal in regards to education has been to “privatize” it.

Ahem. I have some concerns.

Alrighty. Carry on then…
